Debbie Johnson's Snickerdoodles

OK, so here is old friend and awesome baker Debbie II. Remember, there's another Debbie in the wings after we get through the Christmas cookies and go back to more every-day desserts.

Snickerdoodles with and without cinnamon

Back to this story.... I was like 25 years old before I had my first Snickerdoodle and it was from Debbie who I worked with at the time. Growing up it was lots of chocolate chips, and the assortment of various Christmas cookies you'll find in here. My mother didn't make those pressed butter cookies and ultimately, I never became a fan. These Snickerdoodles made me a fan of buttery cookies instantly.

Every now and then I'll make a batch without dusting in the cinnamon sugar because I have some friends and loved ones who prefer them that way. Either way they are delish!

THE RECIPE

1c butter softened

1-1/2c white sugar

2 eggs beaten

2-3/4

c flour

2t cream of tartar

1t baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

For dusting the cookie dough

2T sugar

2T cinnamon

Heat oven to 400º

Beat butter, sugar and eggs together until well blended and fluffy

Whisk remaining dry ingredients together

Gradually add dry ingredients to butter mixture and continue blending until a soft dough is formed

Form dough into 1" balls and set on waxed paper (If dough is too soft, you can refrigerate it for a couple of hours before forming the balls)

Combine dusting sugar and cinnamon in a bowl

Roll each cookie ball in the dusting mixture and place on cookie sheets 2" apart

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly brown at the edges.

Makes about 5 dozen
